(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 2 - A Russian-owned oil refinery at Priolo
in Sicily is to be put under trusteeship in a bid to avert its
closure when an embargo on seaborne Russian oil kicks in
shortly, government sources said Thursday night.
Trustees will shortly be named for the Lukoil-owned facility,
they said.
The ISAB-Lukoil plant will have a commissioner for 12 months at
least, with the term able to be extended for another 12 months.
Premier Giorgia Meloni voiced satisfaction with the government's
"urgent" move.
"Premier Giorgia Meloni, expresses satisfaction for the approval
by cabinet of a decree law to protect the national interest in
strategic productive sectors," a note from the premier's office
said.
"(It is) a norm with which the government intervenes, among
other things, to ensure the continuity of work at the ISAB
refinery in Priolo, which employs with its allied industries
about 10,000 people.
"The purpose of the emergency intervention is to protect both a
strategic national energy hub and employment levels which are so
significant for Sicily and the entire nation". (ANSA).
