(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 17 - The control of the EU's external borders is urgent, Premier Giorgia Meloni and French President Emmanuel Macron agreed over the phone Tuesday, the premier's office said.
    The office said that in the conversation "the will to guarantee full support for Ukraine was reaffirmed and the urgency of finding at a European level effective solutions to bolster European firms' competitiveness and to fight illegal immigration via effective control of the European Union's external borders".
    The office added that Meloni and Macron agreed to continue to discuss these issues, on which they broadly saw eye to eye.
