Italy guest of honor at the Prague international book fair
Focus on Eco and 100 years of the Italian Cultural Institute
10 June, 11:31 (ANSA) - PRAGUE, JUN 10 - Italy is this year's guest of honor
at the Prague International Book Fair. Italy chose to celebrate
the 90th anniversary of the birth of Umberto Eco, the
world-renowned novelist, essayist, and semiotician, and also to
mark the anniversary of the Italian Cultural Institute, which
has been operating in Prague for a full 100 years, the Italian
Cultural Institute reported. As for the motto of this year's
edition, the Book Fair chose a quote from Eco's "The Name of the
Rose": "We live for books. Sweet mission in this world dominated
by disorder and decadence."
Italian Ambassador Mauro Marsili, Minister of Culture of the
Czech Republic, Martin Baxa, and Director of Svět knihy Praha,
Radovan Auer, attended the opening of the Italian Pavillion
which focuses on the masterpieces of Italian literature. (ANSA).
