EU: Slovenian proposal for granting Bosnia candidate status

Sarajevo would have to adopt a series of laws

20 June, 14:59
(ANSA) - BELGRADE, JUN 20 - Slovenia has submitted a plan to award EU candidate status to Bosnia-Herzegovina as early as next week's EU summit, the Slovenian news agency STA reported. Today in Luxembourg, Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon will present it to her EU peers during a session of the Foreign Affairs Council, the agency said.

The proposal, seen by the STA, indicates that Bosnia would be granted the status during the summit on 23-24 June, to which Prime Minister Robert Golob will be invited. According to the proposal, Bosnia would be required to enact laws outlined in the political accord agreed by Bosnian political parties a week ago in Brussels before accession discussions could begin.

These include the law regarding the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council, the law regarding courts, the law regarding the prevention of conflicts of interest, and the law regarding public procurement, STA wrote. (ANSA).
